Great pastries, cakes, and services too. We came by here for some afternoon sweets, and everything was great. I liked the Yuzu cake the most, but all the other stuff we got were good as well. The shop was super cute.

Very cute elegant pastry and coffee shop! - pain au chocolat $6 (5/5) : big and flakey pastry! Very buttery and crispy yet soft - rose latte $6.25 + $1 for oat milk (5/5) : a floral coffee that wasn't very sweet or bitter - matcha latte $6.25 + $1 for almond milk (5/5) : great quality matcha Total was $26 with tax, tip, and SF mandate fee. Their pastries and drinks were high quality. It's a great place to take a break from walking around downtown. Very secured coffee shop with security at the door. Will come back again to try other items from the menu.

It's expensive, we know. But it's French patisserie, so we knew what the price tag would be, and despite the mass production involved of a shop of this size, the quality remains impressively superb. French patisserie is so expensive because it is majorly difficult to mass produce. The baking world is often a looks vs taste battle. French patisserie has to satisfy both. Each item has multiple components that are finicky to create separately much less together. All of the textures and flavors must agree AND it has to look perfect. It's held to such high expectations precisely because of the hefty price tag it comes with. One65 satisfies all of these points for me. I tried the lemon yuzu and the chocolate imperial and the lemon yuzu was the best French patisserie I've had in California so far. The tartness cut through the sweetness beautifully and I love their use of yuzu as I find it tends to incorporate better in creamier elements than lemon without disrupting the texture. The crunchiness of the base as well as the wafers on top were an essential addition of texture that brought the whole dessert together. While some critics might find the thickness of the base to damage the delicateness of French patisserie, it was exactly the right thickness for me to overcome texture fatigue (I'm not fond of mousse or jelly desserts). The glaze on the sides of the cake were not well executed but that's the consequence of needing to mass produce and I'm not one to harp on visuals when it tastes great. The chocolate imperial was also good but very typical - high quality chocolate flavor but really that is the bare minimum for a $12 dessert. Lovely shiny glaze on top but the chocolate collar didn't quite fit. Once again, doesn't bother me but may bother those who eat with their eyes more than their mouths. I appreciated the beauty of the displays. They have small and large patisserie, macarons, and beautiful bonbons. Also appreciated that they have a good amount of seats, which is atypical in the heart of SF. However, I would have liked to see better plating of the patisserie - the plates are plasticky, bulky, muted, and warm-toned which disagree harshly with their cool-toned and vibrant desserts.

From the moment you walk in, you know it's a special place with the decor and service. Their cakes look so gorgeous, almost too pretty to eat! They also have various flavors of macaron, handmade chocolate, pastries, lunch items like sandwiches, and salads. The quality is exceptional and it's really hard to leave choosing just one. They box you up in a nice big box to open as a present for the cakes like something truly special.
